Baahubali Background score
Rajamouliās magnum opus production Baahubali gained much appreciation for not just the taking but also for the technical expertise in every department. Music by M.M.Keeravani is fantastic not just for the songs but also the background score. Seeing the widespread admiration and analysis over the touted BGM, the makers of Baahubali released the first installmentās background scores for the pleasure of fans!
Mahendra Baahubali Must Live is an emotionally compelling track with wholesomeness of Far East flute and mild strings. The power packed horns and trumpets take their toll slowly and create a mesmerizing impact. The entire track breathes royal life, power and of course- peaks of heroism! It also shows the valor of Sivagami and her determination to keep Baahubaliās heir alive with all her strength.
Next arrives Mask and The Soldier which has the goodness of tribal flute and xylophones. The foot tapping rhythm and ominous horns is quite appealing to hear. The track speaks of the rawness which Avanthikaās character displays and ruthlessness of her nature in killing the wrongdoers. It can be called as a mellowed aggression which is hard to get by!
A sweet little theme Tattoo shows the blossoming of love between Shivudu and Avanthika is the most sublime manner. Mild strings, and horns are quite brilliantly used and also gives an old school effect overall. The soft chorus is another wonder which works like a charm. The wholesomeness of Hindustani Raag Pahaadi is seen in this track. Might be an ode to the song Paccha Bottesina which is also composed in the same raag?
Enter the antagonist with Bhalla and Bison which expresses crudeness and negative power which is hard to succumb to. Keeravani uses excess rhythm and percussions and scary chorus which gives a fear factor. The strings take over with confidence and a display of carelessness and fervor.
Volcanic Worlds is an emotional track expressing the anguish faced by older Devasena who is chained in Maahishmathi. The longing, the wait for her son and freedom is greatly depicted in strings and mild percussions. The violins speak mountains about how difficult and challenging such waiting is. It also shows the tremendous strength Devasena has to wait as longer as it gets!
The romantic track between Shivudu and Avanthika is beautifully depicted with Man and Woman– the unleashing of Avanithkaās feminine side is perfectly shown by Keeravaniās own humming supported ably with flute, violin and mrundangam. The beauty of raag Pahaadi is shown mesmerizingly in violin and the humming. The table doesnāt overdo anywhere and ably supported by mridangam as well. There is a slight usage of jaltarang which is an icing on the cake. A perfect and lovable prelude to Paccha Bottesina song is done here!
Verdict:
Baahubali-1 ās Background score is as good as the songs themselves but also unleashes many additional layers to this magnum opus!
Our Picks: Mahendra Baahubali Must Live, Volcanic Worlds, Man and Woman
