107 students have joined including 19 girls, which is a higher proportion considering average of 10 percent girls in other IITs. About 50 percent students are from AP and Telangana states, as many qualifying for IIT have preferred to join at Tirupati.
Expeditiously facilitated by state Govt of AP, the IIT campus is temporarily located over 61,000 sq feet at Chadalawada Engineering College at Tirupati.
Physics, Computer and Chemistry labs have been developed and four courses have been started in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Science.
For residential facility, the government has made arrangements at 21st Century Gurukulam, Tirupati.
The government has given land of 563 acres free of cost to IIT Tirupati for its permanent campus at Yerpedu village near Tirupati. It will also construct compound wall while handing over the site.
The IIT Tirupati is a premier resource for the state-level institutions of higher education to connect to for faculty and student exchange programmes, joint research projects, etc.
