The ruling TRS won the second Legislative Council seat uncontested. The party candidate Puranam Sateesh Kumar is expected to be declared elected unanimously as there is no candidate left the fray from Adilabad Local Bodies’ constituency. The election is scheduled on December 27. Congress, fearing defeat, did not field its candidate and TDP candidate Narayana Reddy withdrew his nomination. The lone independent candidate Riyajuddin also withdrew from the contest, leaving Puranam Sateesh as single candidate in the fray. An official statement is expected later.
This is the second unanimous election for the ruling party, the first being Konda Murali from Warangal district constituency. Purana Sateesh Kumar is the party’s president of Adilabad district. These two seats are morale booster for the TRS as they come on the close heels of Warangal Lok Sabha constituency byelection where the party candidate P Dayakar won the election with a record margin. The ongoing election to 12 vacancies of Telangana Legislative Council is a setback for the opposition Congress. The party could not find candidates to field in as many as seven constituencies. Only five candidates are in the field in the state on behalf of the Congress.
At a point of time, the party had also decided to field the district Congress presidents of all the districts as party candidates. Party sources however said none had come forward. So, the party finally settled down for Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Medak and Nizambad, while in Khammam the party has decided to extend support to CPI candidate, Puvvada Nageswara Rao.
