Andhra Pradesh, which is in the throes of partition, suffered a loss of Rs 3,759.97 crore due to the heavy rains that battered the state in the recent past. Briefing the central team that toured the state to assess the loss due to incessant rains that hit the state between November 15 and November 23, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu urged the centre to assist the state liberally.
The team met Naidu at his at Vijayawada camp office. Nellore, Chittoor, and Kadapa districts which are closer to the Chennai border bore the brunt of rains in Andhra Pradesh. These districts, according to the chief minister, received a rainfall six to 11 times more than the normal rainfall. The crop loss was estimated at Rs 426.94 crore while losses to Horticultural crops at Rs 336.27 crore. Fisheries sector suffered a loss Rs 492.96 crore while the losses to irrigation and R&B department were put at Rs 818.29 crore and 711.9 crore respectively. Naidu said 6507 pucca houses and 17,089 huts had been either washed away or damaged.
The central team consisting of Satyendra Garg ( Union Home ministry), Krishna Prasad (SE National Highways) and Manoj Kumar Varma ( Union agriculture ministry), A Venkatanarayana (Niti Aayog) toured the district affected by the floods in the state.
Due to rains and floods about 1.25 lakh people had been shifted to relief camps in state, the CM told the central team. Giving details of the relief measures taken by the state government, the CM said all the affected families had been given Rs 2000 worth utensils and Rs 2000 worth blankets, along with rice at the rate of 10 kg to each family.
Naidu asked the central to team to recommend liberal help to the state recover from the impact of floods.
