Telangana Roads and Buildings, Women and Child Welfare Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao is reportedly bogged down with a pile of cash in crores before him, left unspent after nine months into the current financial year. Now the catch is that he has to spend the entire amounts within three months.
Hyderabad: While every one of his colleagues in the cabinet remained busy with different activities, the Tealganna Road and Buildings, Women and Child Welfare Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao is reportedly bogged down with a peculiar problem, looking at a pile of cash in crores left unspent.
Other ministers like K Taraka Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, Kadiam Srihari have been busy in the party activity, on how to make the party win in the ensuing GHMC elections. Or, they were engaged in highlighting the achievements of the TRS government in last one year.
But, Tummala is learnt to have been left with a pile of cash in crores before him. And, the catch is that he has to spend all that in next three months. So, he is reportedly conducting a series of review meetings with the senior officials of his departments on how to spend away the funds.
During the current financial year the budgetary allocation for the Road and Buildings department has been pegged at Rs 4,980 Cr, and for the Women and Child Welfare Department it was Rs 770 Cr. But, in both the departments held by Tummala, there seems a huge gap between the allocated funds and the expenditure that is so far incurred.
Whether, officials of the departments concerned has been running the show, spending from non-plan expenditure remained under wraps, now the minister has found the glaring gap between allocation and expenditure under planned funds.
Following this, Tummala has summoned senior officials from both the Roads and Buildings and Women and Child Welfare departments. The officials were directed to prepare a monthly-spending-calendar to exhaust the crores left unspent after a lapse of nine months. The minister asked the officials to immediately take up laying of roads from different districts leading to the place where the “Sammakka – Saralakka Jatra” is to happen in Warangal district.
Likewise, finding that the spending on the Women and Child Welfare departments too has so far spent very less, the officials were asked to take steps to spend the funds.
In addition to these two departments, the Telangana government is also reportedly facing problem in spending allocated funds under ST, SC Sub-Plan Funds, and funds earmarked under planned expenditure.
The 2016-17 budget is the first one presented after the creation of separate Telangana state and the fact sheet of its financial administration is expected to come out in March 2016 when the CAG submits its report.
