Now, Hyderabad is in the grip of full-blown poll campaign. The campaign is unprecedented this time in every aspect of electioneering- money-wise and promises-wise. The bottom line of the campaign from all political parties is pro-women attitude. For the first time political parties, instead of community, are targeting households in the campaign.
All major political parties in the fray are facing tough time to please the voters. This election is crucial for every party and their future hinges on the outcome of the poll, scheduled on February 2. Three major political groups, TRS and Congress and BJP-TDP are unanimous in that water is the main issue for the people of the Capital of Telangana. Despite the massive propaganda about supplying Manjeer, Krishna and Godavari waters to the city, half of the city still faces acute water problem. Still the government is not able to supply water daily. All political parties are offering plenty of water to residents. After water next important big thing is the supply of gas- which is also a perennial problem. Getting new gas connection is still a herculean problem. Consumers have to wait for a week or more to get the refill after booking. In both the issues, worst causality is women. So, all political parties, have consciously crafted their campaign to win over the women folk in the capital city. To provide succor to housewives all political parties promised piped supply of cooking gas to households in their manifestos. While the ruling TRS has already assured of linking the households with drinking water grid, the BJP and Congress too pledged that they would give priority to drinking water issue if they are voted to power in the GHMC elections. Regular supply of drinking water to every household in the city figures prominently in BJP-TDP manifesto. Then it talked of supply of piped liquefied petroleum gas. Since resolving water and cooking gas supply lead to the happiness of the families BJP-TDP named its poll manifesto, `Vision Document for Happy Hyderabad’. The NDA sought to compete with TRS in Wi-Fi as well. Like the TRS which has promised that the state government would make Hyderabad wi-fi enabled, the BJP-TDP too assured to make Hyderabad a wi-fi metro city.
Congress also has given top priority to hassle free supply water and cooking gas every hosehold. Telangana Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said his party would take up drinking water scheme on a war footing if his party wins the polls.
