Chandrababu Naidu seems to be very serious about wresting Kadapa district from Jaganmohan Reddy and restore the name of the district as Kadapa from its present ‘YSR’ district. After weakening YSRC president Jaganmohan Reddy in Assembly by encouraging defections, Naidu appears to be hell-bent on proving that the district is no longer the ‘fiefdom’ of YSR family.
The frequent visits by chief minister Naidu himself and the visits of his son Nara Lokesh, who is the national general secretary of the Telugu Desam party, clearly indicate party’s strategy for the Kadapa district.
In the past thirty years, Kadapa has not produced a credible rival to the YSR family. Two parliament seats in district, Kadapa and Rajampet, have always been held by YSR faction. Only once TDP’s Gunipati Ramaiah won from Rajampet defeating Sai Pratap, now in TDP.
Absence if parallel power centre has made Kadapa district synonymous with YSR family. To prove this after his death the district has been named as YSR district, removing the name ‘Kadapa’ permanently.
It is reliably learnt that TDP is planning to restore the name Kadapa, which means Gadapa ie gateway or door to Tirupati. Kadapa is said to have derived the name as it is gateway to Tirumala
and houses an important temple for Lord Venkateswara.
Unless Jagan is defeated politically and made unpopular it is difficult to restore the original name as the government fears that there is still admiration for YSR among some sections of the people in the district. The motive behind the frequent trips by chief minister Naidu and his son Lokesh is, according to TDP sources, is to wean away the masses from YSR family and win over the MLAs. YSRC won 9 nine seats while TDP one in 2014. so far two defected to TDP
Naidu has devised a diplomatic strategy to hit at Jaganmohan Reddy. While YSR never uttered the word Kuppam , Naidu’s Assembly constituency , the latter chose to repeatedly talk about Pulivendula, the pocket borough of YSR family.
First he released water into Pulivenula Branch Canal from Chitravati balancing reservoir, which was celebrated by Naidu and TDP as his generosity towards the people in his enemy’s constituency .
Now, on May 7, addressing people at Kadapa, Naidu assured that he would work to give water to every inch of Pulivendula constituency. He promises to make Kadapa horticultural hub and launched the loan waiver to horticultural farmers to the tune of Rs 389.47 crore. He had an interactive session with horticulture farmers and distributed loan waiver cheques.
