Chandrabau Naidu has taken the senior bureaucrats and District Collectors by surprise when he said that the Government would “strictly enforce” the Rent Control Act, if the landlords in the new Capital region continue to jack up the rentals.
Naidu was speaking on the second day at the Collectors’ Conference at a convention centre owned by Union Minister YS Chowdary’s family in Vijayawada on Thursday.
He told all secretaries and heads of departments and State Government staff that they would have to move to new capital region by finding private buildings on rent for housing different offices.
The employees have already made lofty demands, and some of them were pleonectic too. Yet, the Government bent backwards and conceded most of the demands, giving the employees the edge over the Government.
That is not the case in point here. When the government was determined to move over to new capital region by uprooting almost all offices lock, stock and barrel from Hyderabad – barring the departments that fall under Schedule 9 and 10 of the Constitution, accommodating the offices is posing an ominous challenge.
The temporary secretariat, being constructed at Velagapudi, is not likely to be ready by June 27, the day on which Naidu wants the AP Government to commence functioning from the new Capital in its totality.
Taking advantage of this, the private landlords and house-owners are hiking the rentals. This irked the government, as it would fleece the State exchequer.
Naidu’s blurting out of “strict enforcement the rent control act” seemed as if he was making a mockery of the law himself. Is the government not enforcing most laws that have been enacted is a natural doubt that crosses the minds of people.
In fact, incoherence in statements by politicos is not uncommon. But, Andhra politicians – especially those from the TDP and the YSR Congress – are vying with one another in indulging in blabber.
While as latest as today, Leader of the Opposition YS Jagan said the Rajya Sabha ticket was given to Vijaya Sai Reddy to reward him for standing by him, the Chief Minister talked about “stricter” enforcement of law.
Take a look at some of the double entendre by Chandrababu Naidu in his latest stint as the Chief Minister.
He repeatedly said that there was a need to increase the population and give birth to more children. He once said he did not have a wrist watch to wear and that he did not have a purse in his pocket. He said he was unable to play with his grandson for want of time and tight schedules.
Naidu’s blabber peaked when he passed remarks on religion and the devout. As people were committing more sins, they were offering gifts to the God, resulting in spike in the revenue of temples. In the same breath, he said that the Excise revenue was dented in the Ayyappa deeksha season. In fact, the liquor sales was high in Andhra Pradesh during Ayyappa deeksha season, according to official statistics.
Now he spoke about “stricter enforcement of law”. And, the unruly utterances of other TDP leaders shock the people to no end, more often.
What messages are the politicos intending to send across the people is anybody’s guess.
