Like any ordinary citizen, every actor has certain responsibility towards the society. Malayalam hero Mohanlal is one of the few actors who talks about and contributes to the greater good of people. In a latest move, the popular actor highlighted troubles in paradise!
An active blogger with a flair for writing, Mohanlal penned an open letter in Malayalam to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan bringing certain nagging issues that trouble the souls of any conscious-carrying citizen, to his kind notice. At the outset, he made it clear that the letter is a request from a citizen of Kerala and not a friendly letter to the CM from an actor.
The letter, posted on his official website (www.thecompleteactor. com), in the form of a PDF and a seven-minute long podcast, received a widespread response. Mohanlal posted it as a video too on his Facebook page attracting a rapid traffic and stirring a nice debate on its contents.
Referring to several issues that God’s own country is facing at the moment, such as waste management; atrocities against women, children and the elderly; traffic congestion; road accidents due to speeding; and environment, the actor said: “If these issues are not addressed, Kerala has no future.”
According to him, garbage is the biggest threat for the State. “There should be specific places for the waste to be disposed of and those who deposit them in public spaces ought to be punished,” he noted.
The actor stresses need to preserve nature, or what is left of it. “You and your government have to protect the greenery of our beautiful land. We have to preserve the remaining forests, waterfalls, hills and paddy fields. If we do not, Kerala will become just a green dot in our memory,” he observed.
Mohanlal extended his services as an artiste and as an individual to the endavours of the Chief Minister to address the above-mentioned issues. Tapping on the back of Mr. Vijayan for having taken some good decisions soon after taking charge, he rounded off the letter by saying: “Kerala expects a lot from you.”
