Avasarala Srinivas’ latest offering Jyo Achyutananda is gaining strength at the box office. The glowing word of mouth is translating into solid box office numbers. After a slow start on Friday, the film has a strong weekend in all areas of its release. The deft handling of the sensible script and the fine performances of the star cast is helping the film big-time and set the tone for a strong office show.
In overseas, Jyo Achyutananda has set the cash registers ringing in all areas. After collecting decent figures from its premiers( $ 31 K) , the collections have improved phenomenally and the film has notched up $ 90 K on Friday. On Saturday, Jyo Achyutananda amassed $ 151 K to take the overall total to $ 272 K. These are excellent numbers for a medium budget film and one might feel that Jyo Achyutananda will be profitable venture in Overseas. But, that is not the case here as the film was sold for a exorbitant price and it will be a loss venture despite being a super hit. Here is why –
Telugu360 already published an article that Jyo Achyutananda was snapped for an unreasonable price in overseas and it should gross around $750 – 900k depending on the area to break even for the exhibitors. The movie might end up grossing around 400k in the first week, but the film needs to have a huge second week to breakeven. Due to the effect of Pelli Choopulu, a number of exhibitors bought the rights for fancy prices. As per our sources, the consensus is that the some exhibitors will loose around 20-30 percent of their investment on the film, even though the film is a blockbuster.
“This is a cyclical process. When a small film becomes a huge hit, the prices for all the small/medium range movies are inflated. It happened after Bommarillu, Happy Days and it is happening now again. Nothing new. It will take some time for the market to correct itself.” opined a well respected overseas distributor.
