While opposition members continued paralysing Rajya Sabha proceedings for the continuous second day, the government also created uproar in the house demanding apology by Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad over his remark on the death roll of people killed in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. BJP members were on their feet protesting against him.
The opposition insisted on their demand seeking his presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his response in the demonetization debate. As a result, the Rajya Sabha has been adjourned for the day after witnessing heated exchanges between the treasury bench members and Congress members.
Congress members rushed to the well of the house shouting slogans against treasury bench members. Amid noisy scenes, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi demanded that the Congress and its Leader Azad should apologies to the nation.
The House was adjourned four times as the uproar continued. Earlier, when the House met for the day, AIADMK members trooped into the well in support of their demand for setting up of Cauvery Management Board.
Outside the Rajya Sabha, refuting for apology, Azad asserted that BJP should be asked apology for pushing the country to edge. “The kind of situation that is presently created it is all because of the BJP government,” he added.
Responding to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s assertion that the government will not roll back demonetization, Congress leader Anand Sharma accused the former of inflicting financial chaos on the nation. BJP lacks the grace to apologise to the people for the suffering inflicted on crores of Indians, he added.
