West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Benerjee seems to be the lone leader in the country who swiftly acted against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetization move, so that compelling other opposition parties too to swing into action very fast. This has led to increase her national profile to great extent.
Though only few parities are now showing interest to share dais with her, her move makes all the parties to formulate a joint strategy in both the houses of parliament. Even though Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar openly supporting Modi’s initiative, his party leaders were forced to join opposition ranks in the parliament.
As the by-poll results shows that she is cementing her position in her home state, now she is mainly concentrating on the national stage. After her recent rally at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, she is preparing to address rallies in Lucknow and Patna next week to campaign nationally against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his government’s demonetisation policy.
She has the tact of speaking in local language. She speaks Nepali in Darjeeling and tries out Santhal in Midnapore. To reach larger section at nation level, now she began translating her Twitter feed into Hindi, apart from the usual English. According to her party sources, she is also looking for a Hindi teacher and has purchased a Bengali-Hindi dictionary.
Though she began her career as a parliamentarian in Delhi way back in 1984 and also was a cabinet minister, she felt her Hindi has become “rusty” with lack of practice after she shifted her focus to West Bengal in 2011. Her party is planning to publish once again her biography in Hindi titled “Meri Sangharshpurnyatra”, which was first published in 2013
