YSR Congress Party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy today accused that Chandrababu Naidu government has been siding with the contractors and neglecting tribals with regard to the fate of Polavaram project displaced persons. Today he started hiw two-day visit to the affected areas in East and West Godavari districts.
During his interactive tour with displaced persons in East Godavari district, he asserted that the welfare of tribals affected by the Polavaram project is all the more important and they are being neglected.
Speaking at the interactive session with the displaced persons, the leader of the opposition said that the Polavaram project has been declared as a national project and it has gained importance but the tribals who are affected with the project should also be rehabilitated in equal measure.
The Polavaram project is the lifeline of the people of the state but at the same time tribals who have sacrificed their land and livelihood should be equally compensated, he added.
He deplored that ever since Chandrababu Naidu has become the chief minister, work on Polavaram has been slackened and tribal lands are being forcibly taken away and no adequate compensation is being paid. He lamented that despite many representations and pleadings Chandrababu Naidu has been turning a deaf ear towards the problems of the tribals.
Later the displaced persons had poured their woes and said that they did not receive adequate compensation.
