The recent announcement of Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan about his decision to contest in 2019 polls and his frequent Twitter wars against BJP government making e opposition parties confuse on their poll strategies. Pawan’s `poll entry started at a time the opposition parties are in a move to come together to face Chandrababu Naidu’s challenge unitedly.
The Leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy realised that though Congress and Left parties are losing their relevance in the state, their very presence may hit the chances of his party in several constituencies. In 2014 polls in most of the constituencies, TDP had won with marrow margins. That shows the presence of Congress candidates, helped TDP’s win.
The opposition parties have already started exploring possibilities of alliances during forthcoming municipal polls. Polls to 11 municipal corporations are scheduled to be held at any time. They are expecting these polls would provide base for making moves of 2019 polls.
However, the possible emergence of Pawan Kalyan in the election fray making their plans irrelevant. Now Left parties have already started cultivating rapport with the film star. Congress and YSRCP leaders also have given `open invitation’ through media releases seeking alliance.
However, the conspicuous silence of Pawan Kalyan on his poll strategies makes opposition to suspect his intentions. A senor opposition leader wondered that whether Pawan Kalyan want to defeat TDP-BJP alliance or benefit TDP by dividing opposition votes. The opposition seems to be impatient over his `soft’ criticism against Chandrababu Naidu governance and silence over several corrupt charges.
An opposition MLA said Pawan’s Tweets lacks political flavour and till now no visible attempts by the film star to engage himself in `real politics’. “His attitude certainly makes us suspect his true intentions”, he added.
