Probably for the first time, the MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has attacked the TRS government in the state assembly raising the bogy of `Telangana sentiment’. It may be recalled that TRS has gained political prominence by raising `Telangana sentiment’ only, which ultimately led its supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao to form the first government of the new state.
Owaisi today accused the state government of discriminating “real Telanganities” in supplying drinking water. Speaking in the State Legislative Assembly during Question Hour, he deplored despite formation of Telangana State, local residents are facing the problem of drinking water.
While in united Andhra Pradesh KCR used to accuse `Andhra rules’, who are said to be ignoring local Telangana population, Owaisi resorted to blame the present government neglecting “real Telanganities”. While to KCR, `Teaangana people’ means original residents of this state, for Owaisi, `real Telanganites’ mean who are living in the Old City of Hyderabad, which is considered to be fortress of Owaisi brothers.
He alleged that the “real Telanganites” were being discriminated in supply of drinking water while the supply was proper in areas inhabited by those hailing from Andhra region. He also stated that the government has failed to replace the water and drainage pipelines in the Old City which were laid during the reign of Nizam.
According to him, nearly 9 million gallon of water was going waste on daily basis due to leakages. At an average of 150 gallon, this water could be supplied to 60,000 households if leakages are plugged. Irrespective of availability of water in Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar, water was not being supplied to the Old City areas.
Several areas in Charminar and Chandrayangutta constituencies were not getting adequate supply of drinking water. Eight water tanks which were sanctioned for the Old City, not even one tank has been completed. He said that of Rs. 2,000 crore package announced for the Old City, only Rs. 900 crore were spent.
