Nizam Sugars
Telugu Desam Party’s Telangana leaders, who are struggling with identity crisis in the new state to reach common people, now seem to be cornering the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on the issue of Nizam Sugar Factory.
Though TDP had earned discontent of the farmers for selling out one of the biggest sugar factories in the Asia to a private promotor, during earlier stint of Chandrababu Naidu as Chief Minister, now ironically the party leaders here are demanding the government to reopen it.
Incidentally it was earlier alleged that Naidu `sold out’ the factory at a throw away price to present BJP’s MP from Narasapur Gokaraju GangaRaju, who had closed the same after `squeezing’ its fruits.
Chandrasekhar Rao during Telangana agitation and later in his 2014 polls manifesto had promised to reopen NSF and Sirpur Kagaznagar factories but so far the government had failed to keep up its promises. Moreover, during the ongoing winter session of the assembly, he made it clear that as farmers are not coming forward and it is not possible to reopen the same.
Instead of the government taking up the responsibility, he is proposing for the farmers to come forward and he would hand over NSF to farmers’ cooperative society. Accusing that government is having hidden agenda in making such move, TDP’s state working president A Revanth Reddy alleged that the government wanted to give Rs 300 crore in the name of opening the factory to the same G.GangaRaju. Though G.GangaRaju had closed the factory arbitrarily, he wondered that why no action was taken against him by the government.
Taking severe exception to the U-turn of the Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy said that the issue should be discussed in the Assembly and a way should be found out to reopen the factory. Speaking at a round table conference organised by Deccan Sugars Rytu JAC, Reddy said that the TDP would stand by the farmers. He said the JAC should fight for the takeover of the factory by the government.
