As Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is going forward with the reservations for Muslim minorities, by including them in Backward Classes list, TDP MLA and BC Welfare Organisation president R Krishnaiah has been making moves to build pressure on the Chief Minister to enhance the reservation for backward classes along with the minorities.
The TRS government is planning to introduce a bill on increasing the quota for minorities during the ongoing winter session of the Assembly, consequently Krishnaiah is intensifying his efforts by asking the government to increase quota for BCs to 52%.
Making it clear that BCs are not against the government’s proposal to hike quota for minorities, he demanded the government to provide quota to the minorities without affecting the existing BC quota. He said that the government should also provide reservation to BCs in education, employment and politics according to their population share.
He met the BC Welfare Minister Jogu Ramanna and submitted a memorandum in this regard. Prior to the Assembly winter session which would reconvene on January 17, Krishnaiah is organising a massive public meeting in Warangal on January 13 to strengthen the organisation’s demand to increase the quota for BCs to 52 per cent in politics, education and jobs.
He organised a meeting with teachers from Backward Classes yesterday at Telugu University auditorium. Likewise, a meeting of State government employees is scheduled to be held at Andhra University on January 11. The MLA said that people belonging to the Backward Classes had been subjected to injustice over six decades and urged the State government to increase the quota for BCs as per the proportion in population.
