At a time Narendra Modi government and AIADMK leadership are taking relief with the issue of an an ordinance allowing traditional Jallikattu sport, the AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi came out and cautioned that this would be a lesson to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As this has established that `no one culture can be imposed in India’, he said in the sway way the Prime Minister should realise `there is no scope for enforcing common civil code in the country’. .
The Hyderabad MP recalled that the Modi government had to bow down before the unity exhibited by Tamil Nadu and issue ordinance within hours to protect Jallikattu, the traditional sport. The AIADMK and the Modi governments became helpless before the resolve of Tamilians to protect their culture. This clearly showed that no one culture or religion can be enforced in India, he added.
Referring to Sangh Parivar’s notion of `cultural nationalism’, he asserts that there is nothing like that. He accused that it is nothing but an attempt to turn India into a Hindu Rashtra.
Stating that the BJP always targeted him on ‘Shah Bano’ case, he asked now what has happened. “The court has said something, the law is different and the Modi government changed it,” Owaisi said and added that government has to give in to the anger of Tamilians.
“People of diverse religions and cultures live in India and therefore common civil code can never be imposed here. The government needs to understand this,” he added.
