The Telangana BJP has strongly rejected the accusations of TRS that it was responsible for the sudden cancellation of appointment by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, given to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The Chief Minister was expected to meet Modi last Monday, along with an all-party delegation from the state on SC categorisation issue.
After the appointment with the Prime Minister was postponed to a later date, several leaders including Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari and TRS leader in Lok Sabha A Jithender Reddy accused that state BJP leaders were behind this cancellation, fearing that would give mileage to the Chief Minister.
Stating that his party’s commitment for SC categorisation is well known to all, the state BJP president Dr K Lakshman said that his party will never resort to such cheap tactics. He said Prime Minister may be constrained to keep up his appointment, which should not be viewed as an intentional act.
He recalled that it was not only opposition leaders, but also several ruling party leaders finding it difficult to get the appointment of Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao, which are being frequently cancelled. Lakshman asked the state government first to reveal on how many occasions Chief Minister was differed with his appointment.
Meanwhile, Lakshman made it clear that his party would oppose by all means the TRS Government’s attempt to give reservations in jobs and education on religious lines in Telangana.
Noting that there is no provision in the Constitution drafted by B R Ambedkar for quota on religious lines, Laxman alleged it is not proper for the ruling TRS to give reservation to Muslims for vote bank politics. He was referring to the TRS Government’s attempt to get the Centre to facilitate 12% reservation to Muslims, a key election promise of the ruling party.
