Congress Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao raised an important point. He suggested that Tollywood heroes, heroines and other stars should draw a lesson from Nana Patekar and Mankarand Anaspure. These actors empathized with the farmers, who are in distress in Maharashtra. Both saw how the looming drought in the state taking its toll on rural Maharashtra. They both were so moved by the plight of the farmers and the suicides committed by them unable to cope up with the indebtedness, the felt compelled to help in their own way.
Bollywood actor Nana Patekar and Marathi stage artiste Makrand Anaspure decided to assist them financially. Without making any fuss about their intention, they both distributed Rs 15,000 per family of the farmers who committed suicide in Latur, Osmanabad and Maratwada regions. A total of 113 families have been benefited by the social responsibility they felt towards their state. Cheques have been distributed in a small program organized in Latur. Earlier they extended similar help to the kin of 62 farmers, who committed suicide, from Vidarbha region.
Telangana stands next to the Maharashtra in suicides. Citing this , the Congress veteran asked Tollywood stars to follow Nana and Makrand and help the Telangana farmers, who were hit by drought and indebtedness. In fact, the members of these families are the real patrons of Telugu movies, he said. As VH said the Telugu stars owe a lot to these farmers.
