Former Congress Minister and presently BJP leader Kanna Lakshmi Narayana is said to be ready to join the main opposition YSR Congress Party. Just ahead of the bifurcation of the state, the Congress high-command had considered him for Chief Ministership. But after elections sensing that Congress has no future in state politics, he had opted BJP.
At that time as both state and central leadership of BJP have been advocating to strengthen the party to emerge as political alternative in the state by 2019 polls, contenting all the seats on its own, he five-time MLA felt good prospects for him and preferred BJP.
However, later a formidable section of state BJP and also central leadership started preferring to continue their alliance with TDP and opposing any move critical of the state government. This makes many former Congress leaders who joined BJP felt isolated.
Since almost a year, Kanna has remained silent in BJP and seems to be discontented as the party is yet to assign him a specific responsibility or accord him some position in tune with his seniority.
In fact, he made futile attempt to join YSRCP even before 2014 polls. Founding bleak future for BJP in the state and elections are nearing, besides due to his strained relations with TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu, he has learnt decided finally to join YSRCP.
According to sources, YSRCP Chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy also responded positively to admit him into the party and also is ready to offer Guntur-2 assembly seat, from where he had won in 2009 polls.
However, Reddy said to be non-committal on other requests like Mayor Position to his son and Pedakurapadu MLA seat to his nominee. He had won from Pedakurapadu four times, since 1989 and his son Kanna Nagaraju was former Guntur Mayor.
