Bollywood star Akshay Kumar announced his sensational decision. He is currently shooting for ‘Housefull 4’. Movie is directed by Sajid Khan and Nana Patekar also acting in the movie. Earlier, Nana Patekar was accused of sexual misconduct by Tanushree Dutta and recently director Sajid Khan accused by lady journalist Karishma Upadhyay with similar charges. Hero Akshay Kumar, after knowing these, abruptly cancels the shooting in support of “Me too” movement.
Akshay Kumar tweeted, “I’ve just landed back in the country last night and reading all the news has been very disturbing. I’ve requested the producers of Housefull 4 to cancel the shoot until further investigation. This is something that requires stringent action. I will not work with any proven offenders and all those who have been subjugated to harassment should be heard and given the justice they deserve.”
It is known news that Aamir Khan, took a stand against sexual harassment and walked out of ‘Mogul’ movie after the director of that movie landed into similar controversy. Now Akshay has urged the producers to stop the shooting until further investigation is done. Akshay Kumar is known for his discipline in the industry and he has never cancelled a shoot in his 28-year career. This is the first time that he has decided to do so, and that too in support of the #Metoo movement. However, legal repercussions of this are yet to be analysed. Producers have every right to sue the artistes or technicians for violating the legal agreements. But, by seeing the current scenario, it is unlikely that producers go to that extent.
Anyway, top stars like Akshay cancelling the shoot, clearly shows how intense is the “Me too” movement at this moment.
