The Government of India on Wednesday granted All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for the revenue deficit state of Andhra Pradesh. This prestigious institute will come up at Mangalgiri of Guntur district which falls under the new capital region. The decision was taken at the union cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to Union Minister Piyush Goyal, each of this AIIMS institute will have a hospital with a capacity of 960 beds, teaching block, administrative block, Ayush block, auditorium, nursing college, night shelter, hostel and residential facilities. The Modi government will be spending Rs 1,618 crore for the construction of AIIMS. Minister states that this institute will help in resolving the medical needs of not only AP but also the neighbouring states.
The state health minister Kamineni Srinivas stated that the BJP government at centre would fulfill all the promised grants to the state and it would definitely help AP in all aspects. It seems that with protests erupting from all quarters of the state for special status, the Modi government is trying to pacify the people of AP with this type of special grants.
However, opposition parties allege that this type of grants won’t help the state and it should only give special status which will provide jobs to the unemployed youth.
