Chandranna Pelli Kanuka
The Chief Ministers of the Telugu speaking states are learning from each other’s experiences. Following the ruckus around Bathukamma Sarees in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh government decided to distribute cash and avoid giving away clothes as part of ‘Chandranna Pelli Kanuka’.
The initial proposal was to disburse Rs 25000 and clothes worth another Rs. 5000. However, when the proposal reached Minister Atchchanaidu, he reportedly suggested against distributing clothes considering the recent experience of Telangana Government. Even a small defect in the saree would give opposition a chance to target ruling party.
It may be recalled that Cabinet approved to bring all marriage schemes under – ‘Chandranna Pelli Kanuka’ earlier this week. This scheme will be launched at the beginning of 2018.
It is surprising to note that the ruling party is making changes to the welfare schemes fearing the opposition. They are not very confident of providing clothes of good quality. It may be noted that these schemes are being to gain political advantage more than public welfare.
