An argument triggered between irrigation department officials of Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh creating a tense situation at Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. The officials argued over the halting the release of water to Nagarjuna Sagar Right Canal to AP.
TS officials stopped the release of water to NSRC, followed by the AP officials hurrying to the site, demanding the water to be discharged. TS officials were not ready to buy the argument put forth by their counterpart. The disagreements escalated to an extent that, the two states police were heavily deployed on both sides of the dam.
To meet the drinking water requirements in Guntur and Prakasam districts, the Krishna River Management Board allocated 5.6 TMC of water to AP of which 4TMC water has already been drawn. It would take three days to at 7000 cusecs to get the remaining 1.6TMC. Before their share was completed, TS officials wanted water to meet the needs of capital city Hyderabad.
AP officials argued that before giving the rightful share of water, how can TS halt the over. AP officials are awaiting decision from KRMB after having lodged a complaint.
