Just after two years of party President Amit Shah’s maiden visit to Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh, where he exhorted the party cadre to prepare to transform the party into forming its own government in the state by 2019, now the party leaders here wondered whether the party has decided to `close’ its shop in the state.
The party state office bearers meeting held last week in Kakinada, in which state party incharge and party’s national spokesperson Siddardh Nath Singh was present, party leaders surprised that not a single `political’ issue was discussed. The only issue discussed was forming booth level committees.
National leadership’s apathy towards state unit reflects with the reluctance in nominating state president since a year. After Amit Shah taken charge as party chief, AP is the only state in the country left out with a regular president. As neither the existing president term was extended, nor a new one was nominated, present president Dr K Haribabu sensing that his term is hanging in balance, not showing much interest.
In fact, Andhra Pradesh was first among few states, who had had completed formation of district party committees well in advance paving way for electing state president December, 2015 itself. But neither election was conducted or a new one was nominated.
Due to callousness attitude of the central party, almost all district committees turned defunct. Even state office bearers are confirming themselves to media meets. Most of leaders even avoiding to meet the press.
At office-bearers’ meet, many leaders plan to discuss issues like forthcoming MLC polls from Graduates and Teachers constituencies in North Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, which were earlier strong seats of the party. They also plan to discuss forthcoming municipal polls, besides party’s relation with TDP and centre’s assistance to state projects like Polavaram.
But they were discontent as the discussions limited to booth level committees. “All leaders giving reports presenting imaginary party machinery at booth level to please the national leadership, but hardly anywhere such machinery is existed”, a state leader said.
