Chennai: The sensational Swathi murder took a new twist as accused Ramkumar on Sunday allegedly committed suicide in Puzhal jail, 15 kms away from Chennai. According to the prison officials, Ramkumar pulled and bit live electric wires and succumbed to electric shock. However, Ramkumar relatives alleged foul play in the suicide of the accused.
It may be recalled that Ramkumar gave some anxious moments to the Chennai police after hacking IT professional Swathi to death in front of huge crowd on Nungambakkam railway station on June 26 earlier this year.
The incident shook entire Tamil Nadu as the top police brass faced several challenges in catching the accused. Ramkumar was arrested by the Chennai police after two harrowing weeks. Ramkumar had attempted to end his life by slitting his throat after being caught.
Ramkumar, a native of Tirunalveli, had befriended with Swathi through social networking site facebook. After surfing through Swathi’s photos in facebook, Ramkumar came to Chennai and started residing in a small room nearer to the location of Swathi.
Later, the accused stalked Swathi on several occasions and proposed her. However, Swathi warned him of informing to her parents if he continues to stalk her. After developing severe grudge, Ramkumar decided to kill her.
