Devil Movie Review
Telugu360 Rating : 2.5/5
Nandamuri Kalyanram after the super success of Bimbisara is back with one more interesting film titled Devil. Abhishek Nama directed and produced this periodic action thriller and Samyuktha is the leading lady. Devil released in record number of screens today and here is the review of Devil:
Story:
Devil is set in the backdrop of 1945 and the British government stages a hunt for Subash Chandrabose. The British government gets a tip about Subash Chandrabose and at the same time, a murder takes place in Rasapadu Zamindar’s premises. The daughter of Zamindar gets killed and the maid goes missing. The British government assigns the case to secret agent Devil (Kalyanram) and the rest of Devil is all about the investigation and the unfolded truth behind the murder. The film also narrates about Subash Chandrabose and his close associate Trivarma. Watch Devil to know about the dark secrets.
Analysis:
Devil is a film that is a blend of murder mystery, patriotism and about a secret agent. Devil is interesting as the film is set in the British backdrop and it is a mix of three genres. The director opens the plot right in the first scene of the film and he hints that the film revolves around the story of Subash Chandrabose. The connection between Subash Chandrabose and the murder of Zamindar’s daughter is kept under wraps. The investigation takes place at a slower pace and the songs are the added barriers.
The audience would wait curiously to find out who Trivarna is but the director introduces her role and kills the curiosity. But the twist of the character was narrated in an interesting manner. The action episode post twist too was quite interesting. Though the story completed at this stage, the film was dragged further and an action episode was added to complete the film. Devil should have been completed after the twist of Trivarna gets unfolded.
The murder mystery was left when needed and the director narrated the story of Subash Chandrabose. The screenplay is a mix of both these tracks and the logics are missed many times. A lot of films were made based on the story of Subash Chandrabose and the novelty missed there. Starting the story with a murder mystery and narrating the story of Subash Chandrabose is something new in Devil. The investigation process is not racy and it happens at a slow pace and this is the major disappointment of the film.
Performances:
Kalyanram is one actor who is open for new, interesting and unique scripts. Kalyanram picks up a new role and his role happens on a serious note. The actor did his best throughout. He should be appreciated for attempting Devil. Samyuktha Menon too has a new role and she looked apt in the role. Malavika Nair’s role has a surprise. Satya’s comedy sounded forceful. All the other actors did their parts well.
The technical team should be appreciated for taking the audience to the world of 1945. The Art work is excellent and the background score by Harshavardhan Rameshwar has been good. The action episodes are well elevated because of the background score. Srikanth Vissa worked on the story, screenplay and dialogues. The narration is the biggest disappointment of Devil. There is a controversy about the film’s director and Abhishak Nama replaced Naveen Medaram. Devil makes an ok watch if you step into the theatre with minimal expectations. Else, it is a disappointment.
