HYDERABAD: The polling for GHMC elections commenced with a clash between Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) party workers at Charlapally division over missing votes in several polling booths.
Workers of both the parties are said to have engaged in a brawl at one of the polling booths. However, the Police at the booth have immediately intervened and detained several of the workers to restore the order.
Similar incident was reported at Lingojiguda polling booth of the Saroornagar division, where Congress Party workers and TRS party workers attacked each other. The Police resorted to Lathi Charge and brought the situation under control.
Meanwhile, complaint of missing names have started pouring in from various polling booth ares and some alleged that their votes have been shifted to other division, without any prior intimation. Several voters at Vivekanada Nagar colony of Kukatpally division could not cast their votes, as their votes were not found in the list in their polling booth. They alleged that Election Commission has not informed about the shifting of their votes. This division has one of the highest number of settlers from Andhra Pradesh State.
The technical glitches at some of the polling booths are yet to be fixed. Voters who arrived at polling booth are still waiting for the EVM machines to function.
Meanwhile, TDP general secretray Nara Lokesh , his mother Bhuvaneswari and wife Brahmani cast their votes in a polling both in Jubilee Hills. Governor ESL Narasimhan and his wife exercised their franchise in Khairatabad while union minister Bandaru Dattatreya family cast their votes in Ramnagar booth.
The polling has not picked up momentum yet. The percentage has not crossed 15 per cent at 11 am.
