Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy has intensified his fight against the state and centre. He will lead the party’s dharna on May 10 in East Godavari district as part of the YSR Congress protest against the denial of special status to Andhra Pradesh by the union government.
This is the third major program of Jagan in May , the first being the drought dharna at Macherla and the second at Vizag in the company of employees of Brandix Apperal.
This protest has been given in response to the clarifications issued by many union ministers including finance minister Aurn Jaitley on the people’s demand for special category status to Andhra Pradesh. This was revealed by party senior leader Botsa Satyanarayana this afternoon.
“We have been very consistent in demanding the special category status for Andhra Pradesh. But the ruling TDP had accused us of stalling the development of the state. We have been telling TDP that a special status alone would pave the way for development as industries come calling because of the concession they get when state is declared as the special category state,” Botsa said.
The opposition party blamed Chandrababu Naidu for the repeated assertions from the union ministers against the special status.
“The union ministers seems to have taken the cue from the Chief Minister Naidu’s stand on the special status. The CM has never favored special status for the reasons known to him and dismissed it stating that special status was not the ‘cure-all’ pill,” he said.
