Now it is clear that KTR is the real heir apparent of TRS patriarch K Chandrasekhar Rao. Media has been predicting a clash between son K T Ramarao and nephew T Harish Rao for KCR inheritance in politics. As KTR was relatively junior, and late comer as far as the Telangana movement is concerned, the argument goes, Harish Rao, who proved his mettle in a many battle, would be the successor of KCR.
Harish Rao has been actively involved with KCR ever since the latter came out of TDP for Telangana. He won elections three times. So, promoting Harish Rao as the successor to KCR looked plausible. But, with GHMC elections, KTR also emerged as a leader of independent stature with organizational skill like his father. The way he handled the GHMC election campaign surprised many. KTR’s oft repeated refrain that Hyderabad people had rewritten the political history of capital equally applies to TRS as well. GHMC has rewritten the history of TRS . From now onwards, KTR will rule the roost. His father has already announced that he would be made minister for municipal administration that means he would be in-charge of Hyderabad ie Nawab of Hyderabad. Already KTR is coordinating all major projects as the minister of Rural development , which is the nodal department for water grid project. Now, the entire cabinet would treat him as the chief minister-in-waiting and take orders from him.
Irrigation minister Harish Rao was stuck in Narayankhed byelections while entire focus was on Hyderabad and KTR. He got paled into insignificance before the blinding glare of the high profile GHMC outcome. Even if the party wins in Narayankhed with record margin, it won’t be a great occasion for celebration. KTR won the power game. Would the takeover be silent or tempestuous? We have to wait and watch.
