Congress and MIM groups clashed in Mir Chowk in Old City of Hyderabad following the complaints that the some people were rigging the votes.
Led by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi MIM workers attacked the car of PCC president N Uttamkumar Reddy who happened to visit the area to inquire about the rigging. The MIM workers also attacked the cars of Council Opposition leader Md Ali Shabbir and MLA Rammohan Reddy. Uttam’s car got damaged in the attack. Earlier, Police took Charminar MLA Pasha Quadri and Purana Pool Congress candidate Md Ghouse. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Shabbir Ali reached Mir chowk police station to get Ghouse released. They said party’s candidate should not be arrested in the name of clash. The arrest and the attack led to tension in the old city for some time..
Asad is said to have attacked the car of Rammohan Reddy as well. With situation getting out of hand Congress leaders fled the scene and reached Gandhi Bhavan. Similarly, MIM workers attacked Vikram Goud near Jam Bagh.
Congress leaders alleged that TRS and MIM joined hands to commit irregularities and attacking the Congress leaders to carry out the rigging in the old city. PCC president Uttam strongly condemned the arrest if Ghouse, party’s Purana Pool candidate.
Shabbir said MIM MP Asaduddin was directly involved in the clash. Asad shove him and Uttam, he alleged. Shabbir alleged that Congress candidate Ghouse was arrested only to carry out rigging unhindered and police cooperated with the MIM workers in the rigging of votes. Uttam alled that Election commission, government, police and MIM joined hands to defeat the Congress candidate in Purana Pool division. The wind screen of his car was smashed by the Asaduddin himself, he said.
Opposition leader K Jana Reddy condemned the attack on Congress leaders. He demanded immediate arrest of Asaduddin Owaisi and his followers to restore the law and order in Old City. PCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarkah alleged that the police were watching silently when the Asaduddin Owaisi was moving around the Old city on Motor Cycle with more than hundred followers frightening the people.
