Akkineni Nagarjuna’s younger son Akhil made his debut last year with VV Vinayak’s ‘Akhil’. Everyone in the industry felt that it will be a perfect launch pad for the Akkineni lad, but the film tanked heavily at the box office and it came as a huge disappointment for the Akkineni fans and the trade circles. Made on a striking budget, Akhil failed to recover even 40 percent of the investment.
Close sources to the Akkineni family revealed that it was Akhil’s decision to go with VV Vinayak’s story for his debut film. As Nithiin is the producer, Nagarjuna didn’t involve much in the production of film. From the story selection to the final output, everything went awry and the launch vehicle of Akhil was not successful. Now, after a lot of deliberation, the second film of Akhil has been officially confirmed by Nagarjuna in a recent media interaction. Nagarjuna’s home banner Annapurna Studios will bankroll the film which will be helmed by Manam fame Vikram Kumar.
It is learnt that Nagarjuna has zeroed in on Vikram Kumar after a lot of brainstorming and hearing out the script numerous times. A source in the known revealed that Nagarjuna has decided to relaunch Akhil with the second project. From the launch of the film to its release, Nagarjuna wants to make it a grand one and has decided to oversee the production activities till the film’s release. He will also be closely monitoring the output after the completion of every schedule.
It is heard that Vikram Kumar narrated the script during Manam shooting, but the project didn’t materialize as he got busy with Suriya’s 24. After considering a bunch of directors, Nagarjuna finally locked Vikram Kumar keeping in mind the excellent output he gave for Manam. The pre production work is currently on and the regular shooting is likely to flag off in November. We have to wait and see if the Akkineni lad can make it count this time.
