Awards are usually conferred upon films which provide a great cinematic experience and appeal to all sections of audience. Whenever awards are announced, they are going to be huge attention grabbers and they are usually accompanied by praises and flak.
The recently announced Nandi Awards by Andhra Pradesh government are inviting huge flak on the jury from audience and movie analysts. It was alleged that the ruling party has largely influenced the jury members and rewarded Nandi Awards to few undeserving actors and movies for the year 2014. Especially, TDP MLA and actor Balakrishna’s Legend which won 9 awards has become a hot topic of discussion in media. Many felt that there were better films than Legend in 2014 which deserve to be rewarded. Critically acclaimed films Manam and Chandamama Kathalu were the ones which garnered unanimous support to be awarded for the Best Film category.
Reacting on the ongoing furore over the biased selection of awardees, Prasanna, one of the members of the jury committee, spoke to TV9 in a media interaction. Shockingly, Prasanna revealed ludicrous reasons which they considered as parameters to select films for the Best Film category. He asserted that Legend has an underlying social theme that is the need of the hour in the country and strongly sticked up to the jury’s decision to select it as a Best Film for 2014. He cited silly reasons like Legend ran for more than 1000 days while others didn’t ran for those many days to win the award.
He also pointed out that Manam has a concept of rebirths and family values and said it deserves only the second place in the list.
His absurd reasons for selecting Legend have now become a butt of joke for audience and media who have been slamming the jury for making a mockery of the prestigious awards.
