Hours after RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav ruled out the resignation of his son Tejashwi Yadav, JDU chief Nitish Kumar resigned as Bihar chief minister.
Nitesh took the decision at a party meeting with MLAs on Wednesday and immediately visited the Raj Bhavan to hand over his resignation to the Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. The governor accepted the resignation and asked Nitish to continue with the responsibilities until further developments take place.
Nitesh said, “It’s not possible to work in such circumstances. I tried to save Mahagath bandhan to the best of my abilities. I had talks with both Lalu and Tejashwi. I did not ask anyone to resignтАЭ.
He said that the RJD chief and his son failed to explain the anything about the corruption charges levied against them. He said that he listened to his conscience while taking the decision.
While Nitesh did not hint about alliance with BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the JDU chief for joining the fight against corruption.
However, BJP welcomed the moved and said that it doesnтАЩt favour mid-term elections. The saffron party said that it is going to form a three-member committee to report its views on the Bihar situation.
Meanwhile RJD chief Lalu reminded Nitish Kumar about his promise to make India RSS free.
