Superstar Mahesh Babu commands solid fan following in overseas. In terms of market, there are only a few actors in South who can match his stamina in US. The makers of his upcoming film, SPYder are looking to cash in on his overseas charisma and are expecting around 22-25 Crores for the US distribution rights. But, distributors are tentative to shell out such an exorbitant price for the film.
Earlier a noted overseas distribution house came forward and offered 18 Crores. But, producer was reluctant to come down on the price. Now, the distributor is looking for a 15 Crore deal as he is wary of new rental structure which has thinned down the profit percentage for buyers. Some of overseas distributors, with whom we interacted, opined that the new pay out system has changed the scenario drastically.
They said that 12 Crores is a huge sum for a big ticket film at present because the closing gross falls between $ 1 M -1.2 M if the film ends as a flop at the box office. Pawan Kalyan’s Katamarayudu, which had a miserable show in Overseas,is the best example, they quoted.
Though producers are demanding sky-high prices for big ticket films, overseas players are not in mood to take the gamble after the new pay out structure is introduced.
