Inturi Ravi Kiran who was detained on 20th April,2017 for defaming the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on social media, returned to administer his Facebook page Political Punch on 5th May,2017. He even thanked followers of ‘political punch’ for the support they have extended to him. Ravi Kiran continued his rant against the ruling party and just within four days of reappearance he was arrested again today.
On April19, Payakaraopeta MLA Anitha who also happens to be a Dalit woman filed a complaint with the Vishakapatnam police against Ravi Kiran for posting derogatory content about her. After initial interrogation, police arrested Ravi Kiran in Vishakapatnam.
If reports are to be believed, during his detention last month, he was given a warning to stop such activities, otherwise another case would be filed against him under SC/ST atrocities act. Ravi Kiran did not heed to their warning and resumed with new trolls against TDP leaders. The SC/ST atrocities act is in force to help poor people and using it for political gain is unscrupulous. Ravi Kiran has been targeting all the TDP leaders without any prejudice of caste, gender or creed. The second arrest only reflects the political motive to control social media.
It may be recalled Ravi Kiran was arrested by Vishakhapatnam police in a similar case filed by Araku MP K. Geetha on 5th August 2014. He was detained under the Prevention of Atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes-1989, IT act and section 509 of IPC. He spent 15 days in jail in that case.
