Though governments have been harsh towards incidents of ragging at professional colleges in law and also practices, the menace seems to be continuing unchecked. A latest incident that rocked the newly joined engineering students at premier technological institute Jawaharlal Nehru Technological Institute (JNTU) located in Kukatpally of Hyderabad created panic in the campus.
Raghavendra, who joined B Tech (Civils) with lot of aspirations, was became horrified when he was badly insulted and harassed by his seniors. According to him, when he was sitting lonely in the campus yesterday some senior students reached there and asked in harsh words whether he was sitting lonely fearing seniors ? Threatened him they will see his end by coming to his room.
So he became panic. Without going to his room, took shelter in a friend’s room. But seniors located him. Summoned to their room. Undressed him. Beaten him. Somehow he escaped them stating that his grandfather brother are calling him.
After informing to his brother, they complained to university vice chancellor and other students. He also given names of second year students, who attacked him. Immediately, college ragging prevention committee started probe.
Raghavendra said that those students have been harassing him. Makes him to attend their works like bringing cigarettes. Though he was humble and obedient to them, at a point unable to bare the harassment.
