AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi, who made Rohit’s suicide a national issue by his visit last week, is visiting Hyderabad Central University again tomorrow. According to reports, Rahul Gandhi will participate in the mass hunger strike being organized by the protesters on the occasion of departed dalits Scholar’s birthday that falls on January 30. The mass hunger strike will commence from Friday midnight and continue till Saturday evening. Rahul join the family members of Rohit in participating in the hunger strike. Though students claimed that Rahul is attending the program, there has been no confirmation yet from Indira Bhavan, AP Congress headquarters in Hyderabad. The students have given call to all the universities across the country to start the mass hunger strike from Saturday. Arrangements for the mass hunger strike are going on in the campus. The students said there won’t be any let up in their agitation till the demands were met. The students are demanding the resignation of vice chancellor Apparao and removal of Vipin Srivatsava as the vice chancellor and justice to the family of Rohit.
Meanwhile tension prevailed on the campus on Friday as well with protesters clashing with the students who want to attend the classes. The SC ST professor and non-teaching staff also joined the students’ protest demanding justice to the family of Rohit. They are also opposed to the appointment of Srivtsava as the acting vice chancellor.
Vice chancellor Srivatsava yesterday day called upon the student to attend the classes from Saturday as a section of the students don’t water the semester go haywire because of the continued closure the of the university. Meanwhile, the union government appointed a one-man commission to conduct a probe into the suicide of Rohit Vemula. Retired judge of Allahabad High Court Ashok Kumar Rupanwala will head the commission. The commission will probe the whole gamut of issue connected to the suicide of Rohit and submit a report in three months.
