Rahul Gandhi made surprising comments on Gandhi, Nehru and Ambedkar while addressing a a meeting in New York. Nearly 2,000 members and suporters of Congress party attended this meeting.
Rahul Gandhi has described prominent leaders of India’s freedom struggle as “NRIs” (non-resident Indian) and said that the Congress party was born of an “NRI movement”. “The Congress movement was an NRI movement. Mahatma Gandhi was an NRI, Jawaharlal Nehru came back from England, Ambedkar, Azad, Patel, they were all NRIs,” Rahul said. He elaborated, “Every single one of them went to the outside world, saw the outside world, returned to India and used some of the ideas they got and transformed India”. Rahul said there were thousands of such “NRIs” whose contribution to India is yet to be recognized. “One of the biggest successes in India, the milk that most of India drinks, it was a man called Mr Kurien, he was an NRI. He came from the United States and he transformed India… There are thousands of examples that we have not recognised,” he claimed.
It seems, Rahul Gandhi’s statements were intentional and planned to win hearts of NRIs. It is to be noted that Modi is earning huge applause wherever he is convening such NRI’s meetings. As Rahul is no match to Modi’s eloquence, he was not getting NRI’s attention when he was confining to criticize Modi in such meetings. So it seems, Rahul and his team strategically changed their approach from criticizing Modi to wining hearts of NRIs and to achieve that Rahul has presented this unconventional view on National leaders in NRI meetings.
Though there was instant applause for Rahul’s comments from NRIs, we have to wait and see how this comments are received in Inida and how (or whether) BJP counters these statements!!!
