Election fever is catching up in the Nandyal constituency of Kurnool district. TDP and YCP are in crisis situation as their cadres in Nandyal constituency have become leaderless for various reasons. YCP leader Bhuma Nagireddy defected into TDP and later with his demise the seat is left vacant. Before the Presidential Elections, Election Commission will be conducting by-polls in all the constituencies in the country which fell vacant due to different reasons.
Instead of following the tradition of withdrawing from the poll and letting a family member of the deceased contest, YCP seems to be brooding over identifying a candidate to win the elections
It is totally a different story with the ruling TDP. The successor of Bhuma could be his second daughter Mounika Priya as his son is too young to contest. However, Mounika Priya lacks experience and since Akhila Priya is already inducted into the Cabinet. TDP sources are apparently considering to pitch in Brahmananda Reddy who is son of Bhuma’s brother.
On the other hand, Shilpa Mohan Reddy is very keen about contesting from the constituency. Arch-rival of Bhuma, Shilpa is uprising against TDP for the Nandyal ticket. Shilpa lost in 2014 elections after he contested from TDP. Prior to that he worked as minister in the Congress government. He is likely to quit the party and join YCP to contest in election. If YCP doesn’t offer him the seat, he may contest as an independent.
Another TDP leader, Md Farooq is allegedly in the race. However, Farooq said that he would support the TDP leader’s decision. Bhuma family and Farooq are of the opinion that Bhuma’s family members should be given the ticket. In this context, the rebellious Shilpa Mohan Reddy is likely to create turmoil in the ruling party in Nandyal.
