Fifteen years ago on this day in 2000, in an incident of police firing near Basheer Bagh-Hyderabad, three youths- Ramakrishna, Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Balaswamy were killed. On that day the opposition parties, Congress, CPI, CPIM etc, were about to lay seize to the Assembly against the power tariff hike by the then TDP government led by N Chandrababu Naidu.
Today all the same opposition parties, Congress, CPI, CPIM, New Democracy, MCPI, RSP, SUCI, CPIML , CPIML (Liberation) paid floral tributes to the youth killed in the firing. Congress leaders from AP and Telangana reached the venue in a rally from CLP offices. This has become a convention to pay tributes ever year on this day. Today is the 15th anniversary of the tragic event. it created so much resentment across the country, many consider the incident paved the way for the down fall of Naidu and emergence of YSR as the Congress leader and future CM. Finally, in 2004 YSR led the Congress to power riding on the anti-incumbency wave generated by anti-reform and anti-World Bank mood among the people, Power tariff hike, successive droughts in the state and suicides by thousands of farmers.
