It looks like Sankranthi 2017 will be the mother of all clashes at the box office in the history of Tollywood. Already Megastar Chiranjeevi’s highly awaited film Khaidi No. 150, which marks his full length comeback onto silversceen, has been confirmed to hit the screens for Sankranthi. The VV Vinayak directional is fast finishing its shoot and producer Ram Charan vowed to release the film as a festival treat for audience.
Also in the Sankranthi fray is Nandamuri Balakrishna’s prestigious 100th film Gauthamiputra Satakarni, which is on the verge of completing its shooting formalities. Directed by Krish, the historical film is being made on a grand scale with high end technical values. In a recent media interaction, the production unit stated that they are aiming for a January 12th release worldwide.
Joining the Sankranthi race are other top heroes Nagarjuna and Venkatesh, who are looking to release their upcoming films in January. Akkineni Nagarjuna is currently working with K Raghavendra Rao for a devotional flick, Om Namo Venkateshaya, which is based on Lord Venkateswara Swamy. The shooting is progressing at a brisk pace and the unit is confident of releasing the film for Sankranthi. Nagarjuna also hinted that they are aiming for Sankranthi.
Surprisingly, Victory Venkatesh’s yet-to-go -on-floors Guru is also slated to release for Sankranthi. Reportedly, Guru will be wrapped up by December and the production house is looking for a possible date in the second week of January to release the film.
It is clear that film goers are in for a bigger treat in 2017 as all the top heroes are back in action and are going to clash at the box office after eons, but the big question is – Will all these four big ticket films definitely release during Sankranthi ? Or will a couple of them back out ? If all these films clash at the box office, there will be a shortage of theaters in many areas and the revenue gets effected. It remains to be seen if they plan accordingly and release the films with a considerable gap between each release so that they get the required screen count.
