The Telangana Government is moving ahead with its plan of turning Hyderabad into a real international city by providing skyways, major corridors, roads, grade separators and flyovers at a cost of Rs 22,784. These will be taken up as part of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) in the capital.
Responding to a question in the Legislative Council today, Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said that for his government development of Hyderabad on international standards was not a pipe dream. “The promise we made were not election stunts. You will see the government realising the dream”, he added.
In the first phase, the minister said that the Government has already given administrative sanction for Rs 2,631 crore for construction of flyovers and junctions. According to him, the works divided into five packages that will be executed on EPC mode. Tenders have been called on international competitive bidding for five packages.
A skyway would be developed from Jubilee Bus Station to Turkapally. As part of the Musi rejuvenation scheme, a skyway will be built across the river without anyway disturbing the flow of water.
Another skyway was proposed from Patny to Bowenpally. For this, 100 acres of Cantonment Board land was required. The Minister said that he had already spoken in this connection with the Union Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, and the latter had expressed agreement. The State Government would handover an equal amount of land to the Cantonment Board.
Similarly for development of Rasoolpura junction, police land was required. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had agreed to handover the piece of land. A flyover on the Warangal road, junction works at Kamineni Hospital and radial road at Nagole were also in the pipeline.
Government was going for a multi-pronged approach to get funds for these projects, and the State government, GHMC would also contribute money and through BOT.
