On Monday, the Telangana government informed the High Court that it wants to conduct the GHMC elections before January 31, 2016 and sought permission. The Court then asked the government to file a commitment to that extent. Earlier the Court had asked the government to conduct the election before December 15, 2015. Today, the Government was just asking a month time, not an inexcusable proposition indeed, on the face of it. But, this request for extension of date is not without politics, says Dr Marri Sashidhar Reddy, former minister and the man who relentlessly fought against the mass scale deletion of Seemandhra voters from voter list when election are due for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). It is unbelievable that Seemandhra voters have created so much scare in the TRS government.
According to Dr Reddy, Seemandhra factor is responsible for the delay in the conduct of election for GHMC . ” Since chief minister KCR’s attempt to deny Seemandhra people their right to vote in the GHMC elections has been successfully thwarted, the government is devising new strategy to keep the large mass of Seemandhra votes out of GHMC polls. The strategy is to conduct the GHMC election during Sankranti season,” he alleged.
Talking to ‘telugu360.com’ immediately after the Telangana government made its submission before the High Court for an extension of date, Dr Reddy said there was a deep conspiracy to scuttle Seemandhra people from participating in the GHMC polling by hook or by crook.
” Sankranti is an important festival for Seemandhra Peopole. It is only occasion when entire lot of Seemandhra people go back to their villages to celebrate the festival. Once the High Court agrees for extension, the government would plan the poll scheduled in such a manner that the polling date falls on the day when the Seemandhra people are not fully returned to Hyderabad. They constitute about 35 per cent of the total voters of GHMC area. Preventing a fraction of this from voting would change the outcome of the elections,” he said.
He said he would appeal to Election commission against the conduct of elections at a time not convenient for a major section of the Hyderabad voters. ” We legally challenge the decision of High Court, if the Court agrees for the postponement of election to January,” he said. He said he was aware of the move to postpone the election much before they filed affidavit in the Court. Dr Reddy said the principal conspirator was none other than chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
