The Telugu Desam Party, Aam Aadmi Party and other non-BJP parties have got a major relief on the issue of counting Votger Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT). The Supreme Court heard the petitions of these parties and ordered the Election Commission of India (ECI) to count slips in at least 5 VVPATs in each assembly constituency across the country. As per this, there is a need to count slips in 35 VVPATs in each Lok Sabha constituency.
With this, the TDP and other non-BJP parties are confident that there will not be major scope for tampering with the electronic voting machines (EVMs). There have been complaints and reports across the country that the ruling parties are trying to manipulate the EVMs with the help of hackers and software professionals.
Right from the beginning, the TDP has filed cases demanding counting of slips from 50 per cent VVPATs in all the assembly constituencies. Now, the TDP is considering this as a moral victory. The TDP leaders are appealing to the voters to ask for VVPAT slips and verify whether their votes are properly cast.
