Andhra Pradesh may have an advantage in railways, probably for the first time ever. Railway minister Suresh Prabhu is going to be elected to Rajya Sabha from AP Assembly. This could give the state many advantages, the people hope.

There is a demand for a railway zone for AP since several years. After the reorganization of the united state, AP is literally in need of a railway zone.

North Andhra including Waltair division currently under the jurisdiction of East Coast Railway zone. It has the headquarters in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Obviously there is the domination of Odisha officials in the zone. Rest of the state remains with the South Central zone, which has the headquarters in Secunderabad.

If AP gets a separate zone,there will liberty to introduce new trains and take own decisions.After getting elected from here,technically AP will be Suresh Prabhu’s home state.

This could give AP an advantage regarding railway services and setting up new establishments.

On the other hand, it seems to be a strategic move to replace Nirmala Seetharaman with Suresh Prabhu.There is a widespread criticism against the Center for not giving AP a special state status. If Suresh Prabhu contests from the AP, there could be a hope of many advantages. Then there could not be much anger among the people for giving an RS berth to BJP.
