Hillary Clinton in her first interview after the presidential election called for the United States to bomb Syrian air fields hours before President Donald Trump’s announcement. Two days after a poison gas attack in Syria that killed at least 70 persons, she said “I really believe we should have and still should take out his air fields and prevent him from being able to use them to bomb innocent people and drop sarin gas on them.”
Trump who was critiqued to an extent that he is threat to democracy, received bipartisan praise. In her second interview Hillary upheld the attack but said condemned Trump for restricting refugee admission.
Trump found support from a broad cross-section of politicians, officials, analysts and people. The POTUS needs congressional authorization for military action as required by the Constitution. However, Trump unilaterally ordered the strike and did received bipartite support.
When it comes to India, politicians reacted differently to the surgical strike against Pakistan conducted by Modi government. It was a moment of pride for every India. But very soon leaders started pointing fingers and termed it as a publicity stunt by Modi. They accused the government for politicising army efforts. Congress termed it as “poster baazi” and even said that the government will have to own up the consequences of its decision. Pakistan claimed that no such attacks happened which was used by the Indian politicians who asked the government to put forth “credible” evidence of surgical strikes.
Trump did not think of his political repercussions for ordering strike just hours after Hillary’s suggestion. Hillary could own up the credit for the attack. Even post the strike the democrats stood by the decision of the POTUS. United States wanted to display that they are the world power and will definitely interfere when things go wrong. Trump who is known to have friendly relations with Russia, uncaringly went ahead and said that he would get on war with it if needed. Moscow took the responsibility of avoiding chemical strikes in Syria and it failed. Trump did not put aside his country’s integrity for his personal relationships with Russia. Despite having reflected on his principle “America first” by banning refugees, he went ahead with ‘My World First’ strategy.
