An altercation erupted between the Congress leaders and the Police at main gate of Hyderabad Central University when the former were sitting on a protest Dharna in support of the striking students. The incident finally led to the arrest of all senior T-Congress leaders on Saturday afternoon.
All bigwigs of Congress- PCC president N Uttamkumar Reddy, leader of opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council Md Ali Shabbir, former MP Mallu Ravi, Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao, TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarkha, former MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy etc -participated in the dharna. But police did not allow the dharna stating that they had no permission. The Congress leaders argued that the dharna was a democratic activity and it should not be disallowed. Mallu Ravi said the government’s anti-daliti attitude was in full display at the university. Opposing a peaceful dharna was against the basic tenet of democracy that is right to assemble for a peaceful protest. V Hanumanthara said ABVP members were targeting AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi instead of fighting for the justice for a fellow student’s suicide.
Later the police took all the leaders into custody and shifted to Chandanagar Police station.
