The Telangana government on Thursday signed an agreement with 32 cement companies for procuring 27.31 lakh metric tonnes cement for constructing double bed-room houses for poor.
The companies agreed to provide cement at a price of Rs 230 per bag for three years.
Double-bedroom houses for poor is one of the ambitious schemes of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government. It plans to build 2.6 lakh houses for poor in rural and urban areas.
The Telangana Housing Corporation on Thursday signed an MoU with 32 cement companies in the presence of Housing Minister Indrakaran Reddy, who said that the companies agreed to make the cement available within 48 hours after receiving orders from district collector.
Thanking the cement companies for their gesture towards a social cause, the minister promised that their bills will be cleared in one week. He said with the signing of the MoU, the work on the housing scheme will gather pace.
